Ten individuals convicted of cyber-bullying targeting Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has ruled against ten people for engaging in the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the wife of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced accusations of disseminating false claims regarding her gender and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing hurtful comments about the pair's significant age difference.
The court issued suspended prison sentences of up to eight months to the convicted individuals. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.
A persistent unfounded claim claiming that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has existed since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France is concurrent with the Macrons engaging in a defamation lawsuit in the United States against political commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced analogous false narratives about the Brigitte Macron's gender.
Their legal filing alleges that Owens disregarded all credible evidence contradicting her allegations opting to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has regularly repeated these allegations on her digital program and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron first met her future husband when she taught at his secondary school.
The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was 54.
